Obviously one of the key functions of a prison is to keep inmates secure inside.
An almost equally important function is to manage the entry and exit of people
from the outside.

developed software and hardware which is being used in a number of high profile
British prisons. A G4S Security Systems developed system is for example currently
controlling access to "Britain's 50 most violent and destructive prisoners"
at Woodhill Prison. The prison has already been dubbed "Alcatraz" by
the jail inmates, due to its immense security provisions.

of biometric security to HM Prison Service in both England and Wales.
Within the Prison Sector, we offer a 3-part access control system: Enrolment Station,
Inmate Control and Visitor Control.
The Enrolment station allows the prison to ensure that a prisoner being moved
or released is the same person who was enrolled onto the system when they first
started their sentence. This stops prisoners attempting to swap identities with
another inmate.
The Inmate Control System is used to track an inmate
as they move through the prison. When they attend the visits hall they are asked
to identify themselves (via a finger reader) and when they leave they are then
asked to repeat this process. This
ensures that friends or family members do not attempt to switch places with the
inmate.
The Visitor Control system keeps a record of all visitors' details (fingerprint,
photo etc) on a database. Each time they attend the prison the visitor places
their finger on the reader and the system checks that they are the same person
who is held on the database. By having an automatic system, you are reducing the
manpower required to run the visits hall and offering a greater degree of security
to the Prison.
The systems have been a major success in the Prison sector with packages currently
in use at HMP Highdown, HMP Belmarsh, HMP Long Lartin and HMP Woodhill.
