G4S Security Systems recently completed the sucessful implementation of a visitor access and
monitoring system at Saville Gardens near Windsor Castle.
Saville Gardens is part of what is known as the Royal Landscapes run by the
Crown Estates. The Royal Landscape is a thousand acres of landscaped gardens,
lakes and woodland, incorporating The Savill Garden, The Valley Gardens and Virginia
Water lake.
The system incorporates state of the art wireless access control technology which
is supported by the latest point of sale and accounting technology.
The Project was given a royal seal of approval when Southern Regional Director
Douglas Maclaine was presented to HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh.
About Saville Gardens
The origin of The Royal Landscape project lies in the decision of The
Crown Estate Commissioners to approve the construction of The Savill Building,
to replace the current visitor centre.
The Royal Landscape project has four main objectives:
to provide a new level of visitor facilities for The Savill Garden and for
the site as a whole;
to protect the southern part of the Great Park including its lakes, woodland,
and historic landscape features from damage due to uncontrolled access, and
to carefully manage the natural decline that affects all mature woodlands;
to conserve and manage this heritage for future generations through continued
landscape works, plantation and interpretation;
to draw the publics attention to the exceptional beauty of the site and
give its visitors a better understanding of its history and heritage.
The project will preserve the unique character of the site, but not create a museum
of the past. Indeed, many items of the project will be forward-looking. The architecture
is of the 21st century, and the Crown Estate will continue to extend and enhance
the gardens and woodlands, in the living tradition of the Great Park.
